Who we are
Community Languages Queensland (CLQ) is a not-for-profit, community-driven organisation dedicated to promoting language and cultural education for all students, regardless of their cultural or linguistic background.
CLQ's members are Community Language Schools (CLS) that provide essential after-hours language education. As a vital part of Queensland's multicultural landscape, CLQ and its member schools play an important role in preserving and promoting the linguistic heritage and cultural identity of Queensland's culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
CLQ works in close collaboration with the Queensland Department of Education and Community Languages Australia to support Community Language Schools across the state. The Queensland Department of Education provides funding and insurance support to eligible Community Language Schools, while Community Languages Australia offers professional learning opportunities and training for Community Language School teachers.
As a key member of the national peak body, Community Languages Australia (CLA), CLQ actively contributes to national initiatives that strengthen the role of community language education within Australia's multicultural policy framework. This partnership ensures that the interests and needs of Queensland's Community Language Schools are represented and advocated for at the national level.
CLQ and its member schools play a pivotal role in strengthening social cohesion across Queensland. Through language education, cultural engagement, and strong community partnerships, they foster intercultural understanding, celebrate diversity, and support the successful participation of culturally and linguistically diverse communities in Australian society.
